JESSICA:

I'm a Hand Weaver Located in the heart of Devon. I graduated from Manchester School of Art in 2017 with a First Class Honours  Degree in Textile Design. The inspiration for my work stems from my rural surroundings. I'm very fortunate to live in a place where I step outside and am Inspired daily by the beauty of nature. There is an ever-changing palette of colour, textures and patterns which bring life to my work.

As such, I want to ensure that my business is run in a sustainable way and that my products are not impacting on the landscape that I love so much. I ensure that all my products are fully biodegradable and recyclable, each are woven using 100% wool. In a world of fast fashion, it is important to me to make items that are going to last and can, at the end of their life be given back to the landscape they came from.

THE STUDIO: 2025

After losing my Studio space of eight years and a move further into the depts of the county, I've set up shop in the old pig barn on the farm where we're currently living.

Rustic but warm with its underfloor heating, its the perfect little space to continue doing what I love. Located on the edge of Exmoor, I've an endless source of inspiraton on my doorstep.

THE STUDIO: 2017 - 2025

I moved into my small studio in September 2017. Its located amongst a small woodland in Mid Devon, a few minuets drive from where I live. Its home to my four looms. 3 table top looms ( All 4-shafts, a Douglas Andrews, a Weave Master, and a Harris Loom) and a 8 shaft Toika Liisa counter balance Floor loom.

I've a small wood Burning stove to keep me cosy in the colder months and I have everything I need to  be able to weave. Its the perfect space to think, weave, design and create.

KNOCKANDO WOOL MILL

In November 2017 I was the Winner of the New Woven Textile Design Award, hosted by Knockando Wool Mill. My winning design was announced at Scotland:ReDesigned’s annual Runway and Awards Presentation at #SRDGLA17. The competition sought to uncover the best of new textile design talent, inviting current students and recent graduates to submit innovative and contemporary designs that push boundaries.

The Design was from my ‘Devon Seasons’ collection. Each design from this collecting was inspired by the ever changing colour pallets, textures and patters formed in Devons field systems and stunning landscape, during spring/summer 2016/17. My design was put into production at Knockando Wool Mill in July of 2018. Producing both Scarves and Blankets in the design, with my name featured on the Label.

DEVON OPEN STUDIOS 2020

This year I took part in Devon Open Studios. I was fortunate enough to be awarded the Emerging Arts bursary as part of the Event. Devon Open Studios is a great opportunity to meet artists in their studios in some of the most beautiful, unexplored parts of Devon. In addition to being able to buy art direct from the creator, many demonstrate, give talks or give you a chance to have a go.
